Judah Hill road (Highway 744:04) closed down last Friday night (May 17) due to a collapse caused by heavy sliding.
Alberta Transportation discovered the slide during a routine inspection of the area and was in the process of forging a detour when the rest of the road collapsed. The area was deemed hazardous and the entire road remains blocked off.
Judah Hill is a big slide area and has been on Alberta Transportation’s radar for a while, according to Acting Operations Manager Mae Stewart.
No news so far as to how long the road will be closed, how much it will cost to repair, or who will be responsible for fixing it. A Geo-technical Consultant who has helped to correct a lot of the region’s previous slides has been dispatched to assess the damage.
“Until we get that initial assessment done we really don’t know what we’re looking at,” said Stewart.
This is the first serious collapse the road has had.
